While festival organizers have long made showcasing great art their guiding light, they now have their own piece of new art to show off. They commissioned Dan Gilbert Art Group to create a new MVFAF logo and website, citing Gilbert’s “place-based style (that) meshed perfectly with our objectives to communicate our strong community base and the playful blend of quality art and magic we experience at the annual fall festival.”
“Without change there can be no creativity, no re-invention, no forward movement,” says MVFAF Executive Director Steve Bajor. “Our 60-plus year festival recognizes that truth. We are examining and reconsidering everything we do. How can we preserve our magic but also be relevant to our new neighbors and generations? How can we most effectively let the world know who we are? Although we have great affection for the identity we have used for over 15 years, we knew we needed a ‘badge’ that more clearly ties us to our home town, our redwood grove, our mountain. A logo that clearly says: “This is who we are!”
“I spent 25 years raising a family in Mill Valley and enjoying the Arts Festival every year,” Gilbert adds. “I will always cherish the memories of meeting friends, seeing and buying wonderful artwork and enjoying the grandeur of Old Mill Park. It has been an honor to have had the opportunity to redesign the MVFAF brand for an event and a town that has meant so much to me.”
