One of Mill Valley’s biggest weekends of the year is almost here, and it’s a bonafide blockbuster!

Kiddo! is set to kick off Memorial Day weekend with the annual four-day Family Carnival on May 26 and running through May 29. As always, there will be rides for all ages, plus plenty of food and games.

“Join Kiddo! for a real old fashioned carnival at the Mill Valley Middle School,” says Bill Lampl, Kiddo! executive director. “There will be rides for all ages, plus food and games. Advance discounted ticket vouchers are $30 and may be turned in at the Carnival for a one day  wrist band for unlimited rides. Once the Carnival begins, wristbands will be $40. Food and games are extra.”

Advance discounted ticket vouchers will be available to purchase (CHECK OR CASH ONLY) in  the Kiddo! office (now located at 409 Sycamore, by the rear parking lot at MVMS, next to the  gym entrance. Look for the yellow door.) Monday through Thursday, May 22-25, 8:30am 3:30pm and Friday May 26 from 8:45am until 1:00pm. Discount vouchers will also be sold at the  Mill Valley Community Center on Thursday May 25 from 3:00pm-6:00pm and Friday May 26 from 2:00pm-3:30pm. Net proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Kiddo! Endowment for the  Arts and the programs it helps to fund for Mill Valley’s TK-8 public schools.

The weekend includes the return of the Mill Valley Volunteer Firefighters’ Association’s Pancake Breakfast from 7-11am, as well as the Mill Valley Historical Society’s annual ‘Walk Into History’ on May 28.

May 29th marks the return of the Mill Valley Memorial Day Parade, which is preceded by the special Veterans Ceremony, including the student K-8 essay contest, “What does Memorial Day mean to me?” starting 9:45 at Lytton Square followed by the parade at 10:30, with the parade processing from Old Mill School to Miller Avenue. MORE INFO.

The I Love a Parade committee – Larry “the Hat” Lautzker, Clifford Waldeck and Paul Moe are expanding the scope of this year’s event to include the Ukraine, for all those who have “lost their lives fighting for our freedom” in conflicts worldwide. A portion of this year’s parade registration and sponsorship proceeds will go to Ukraine Relief. “These men and woman have given their lives so the world can be a safer place!” Lautzker says.

“Join the Kiddo! float on Monday, May 29 to walk along as it winds through downtown Mill Valley and along Miller Avenue towards Tam High,” Lampl says. “Meet at the Kiddo! float at 10am in front of Old Mill School. Parade starts at 10:30am. 

Once parade goers arrive at Friends Field for the post-parade party, they can expect live music from 12-5pm, thanks to corporate sponsors Bank of Marin and Good Earth Natural Foods. In collaboration with Mill Valley Recreation, The City of  Mill Valley, Famous4 Productions) is hosting a free “Day on the Green” concert from 12-5pm  featuring music from Greg Loiacano and Stingray, El Radio Fantastique and other special  guests. There will also be tasty food and beverages for all ages from local vendors available for  purchase. PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR OWN ADULT BEVERAGES. Beer, wine, and other  assorted beverages will be sold at the event with proceeds to benefit Kiddo!, the Mill Valley  Schools Community Foundation.
