From politics and literature to movies and music, the Depot Bookstore & Cafe has long been known as one of the best hubs of vibrant conversation in Mill Valley. But while the local landmark has occasionally served as the VIP area for Mill Valley Film Festival opening and closing night parties, the cafe’s 7pm closing time hasn’t allowed it to be one of the spots in town where MVFF attendees gather after film screenings to discuss and debate what they just watched.

On the eve of the 41st Mill Valley Film Festival, which runs Oct. 4-14 at venues in Mill Valley, San Rafael, Corte Madera and Larkspur, bookstore manager Ken Brooks is hoping to change that, extending cafe hours until 10pm for each night of the festival.

“As it does every year, the Mill Valley Film Festival has created a lineup that is full of thought-provoking, discussion-inciting films that tell layered, complex stories,” Brooks says. “What better place to have those conversations than in the center of our downtown, with a great selection of wine, beer, soft drinks and food?”

The 411: The Depot Bookstore & Cafe at 87 Throckmorton Avenue is staying opening until 10pm from 10/4-14. MORE INFO.
