The arrival of the 2025 New Year provides a great reminder that the Gravity Car Barn, which opened on May 3, 2009, remains an incredible resource for train lovers and many more, in honor of the Mill Valley and Mt. Tamalpais Scenic Railway. It has become a permanent home for the brilliantly recreated Gravity Car and an interpretive display highlighting this special time in California and Mt. Tamalpais history. The Barn has been constructed over a section of the 98 feet of standard gauge track at the historic rail siding on East Peak and will serve as an educational facility and visitor center for Marin and beyond.

Winterfest, the 94941ās annual holiday celebration produced by the Mill Valley Chamber and Organized Chaos Events, returned to the Downtown Plaza on December 8th, drawing another massive outpouring of residents, participants and friends. The event was once again an absolute blockbuster, with more than 1,000 locals and friends gathering on the plaza throughout the day and an evening of good cheer, including performances from the Happy Feet Tap Dancers, Rita & the Cosmos, Roco Dance & Fitness for thrilling performances of both hip-hop and contemporary dance, as well as the duo of Ellie McKee and Andrew McKee, who performed a broad array of both holiday tunes and classics through a bulk of the afternoon. We invited Santa on stage following his arrival in a beautiful convertible, and then he dashed off to his throne to greet the children. The beautiful Elecrtic Train kept kiddos and their families busy and happy throughout the day.

The City, through a state grant, is funding $175K. Mill Valley Friends of Parks & Recreation will contribute $25K. Organizers seek to get $50k from the volleyball community and plan to raise about $100,000 from a dozen community minded Mill Valley families,” organizers say. “We appreciate you being one of the community minded individuals that make Mill Valley such a wonderful place to live in!” The fencing to support the creation for this new exciting addition to the town will require significant funding.

Former recipients choose the next honoree, and next up at the Mill Valley City Council’s Nov. 18th hearing, which includes an honor bestowed on the one and only Dennis Fisco, who will be honored with a summary of his four decades of volunteerism in town. His contributions are numerous, including being the Mill Valley Chamber’s Business Person of the Year in 2023. “This is intended for people who get things started in the city and who take the initiative ā this is not just for people who show up,” Mayor Urban Carmel said. “When you take the initiative, you are changing the complexion of this city and making a permanent improvement.
