We will keep innovating and serving our members and community in every way we can. Best Way to Find One’s ‘Why’ at Work: The Always Creative Grace Kraaijvanger, Founder of The Hivery Co-Working Space, Garners Kudos From Pacific Sun!
The Pacific Sun just spotlighted The Hivery among the Best of Marin 2025! Named Best Co-Working Office Space by Pacific Sun readers, The Hivery in Mill Valley is more than just a place to work—it’s a movement. A hub for creativity, mentorship and meaningful connection, The Hivery provides women with the space and support they need to build the next chapter of their lives. Founder Grace Kraaijvanger built The Hivery on three guiding values: kindness, creativity and community. Her goal? To create a metaphorical—and literal—space where the creative and collaborative process is embraced not just by artists, but by anyone seeking purpose-driven work and a life that matters. “It’s a movement about working in an entirely different way,” says Kraaijvanger on her site. “We hug, we belong, we learn, we mentor and we elevate.” In Marin, where the line between work and purpose is often beautifully blurred, The Hivery proves that success doesn’t have to come at the expense of one’s soul.
Marin IJ: Mill Valley Residents Share Stories, Recipes in New Cookbook
A meatloaf recipe made for a veteran coming home from Vietnam. A casserole dish full of comfort on cold nights. These are just some of the recipes found within the pages of the new “Mill Valley Community Cookbook,” an eclectic collection of recipes and the sweet, funny and historic stories behind them by former and current Mill Valley residents. Created by the Mill Valley Public Library, with support from the Mill Valley Library Foundation and Friends of the Mill Valley Public Library, the cookbook launched earlier this month with a potluck featuring many of the cookbook’s participants. A limited number of free copies are available at the library for people to come and take, and copies of the cookbook will be added to the library’s collection for people to check out.
The Redwoods, A Community of Seniors in Mill Valley, Is Building a Community That Thrives Today and Tomorrow
After a Friday night in Boston turned into a fractured pelvis, longtime Redwoods board member Robert Reynolds knew exactly where he wanted to be for his recovery: right here at The Redwoods. “I found myself receiving the best of care with friendly, personalized, professional service from a facility that had enough staff to meet my every need—from pain management to therapy. ”Robert’s gratitude wasn’t just for his own healing. He saw the same loving care extended to his roommate, a skilled nursing resident of three years. “I would recommend The Redwoods to anyone who needs skilled nursing care. ”This August, during National Make-A-Will Month, we’re reminded that the compassionate care Robert experienced is made possible because people like you believe in this community.
Marin IJ: At Long Last, Golden Gate Village Renovations Estimated at $76 million Have Been Approved by the State, Supporting Renovations of 88 residences in 14 Buildings at the Public Housing Complex
Golden Gate Village — the only family public housing complex in one of America’s wealthiest counties — has stood in Marin City since 1961 as a symbol of resilience, culture and community. But in recent years, its aging buildings and outdated infrastructure have fallen short of what residents deserve. After years of delay and discussion, funds for the first phase of renovating Golden Gate Village in Marin City have been approved by the state. The funds will support top-to-bottom renovations of 88 residences in 14 buildings at the public housing complex. The balance of the $85 million project phase will come from other sources. “The Marin Housing Authority and the community have long wanted this renovation to happen … and we did it,” said Marin County Supervisor Stephanie Moulton-Peters, chair of the Marin Housing Authority board. “The residents will see renovation of their units so they’re modern and comfortable and energy efficient. And we can provide housing for families at a low cost for people who need it for many years to come.”
Curtain Theatre Returns With a Dynamic Series of Free Performances of William Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It,’ Directed by Doyle Ott – Celebrating 25 years in Old Mill Park!
As You Like It is a play about exile, the challenges and rewards of living outside the centers of power and knowledge–and the self-knowledge and healing that emanate from Bohemia, symbolized here by the Forest of Arden in Shakespeare’s home county. This production will lean into the dangers of exile, including the need to escape and to stay hidden, the tension between the need to trust strangers and not knowing whom to trust. As the broken exiles learn to heal, shepherds and farmers reclaim the dignity of their craft and a tyrant Duke is transformed, emerging like a prayer for the wisdom the people deserve in a ruler. In design, staging and music, we will pay homage to the Bohemian ideals that Northern California—and particularly, Mill Valley—have represented for 125 years.Free! No tickets or reservations.
