For Cindy Kamm, “painting is a means to express my passion for the color, design and the magic of the natural world that surrounds us.”

“My intention is to use the canvas as a window to stimulate the imagination of the viewer by creating real and imagined landscapes. Much of my work is based on biological principals and images, with an eye towards connectivity and ecology. My years of observation as a naturalist and teacher of biology has helped me see and express these connections. I try to capture the essence and feel of landscapes, and to pull meaning and atmosphere from color with both transparent glazing and bold, confident strokes. Our urbanized culture has a way of separating people from the mysteries of the natural world. Part of my goal is to reconnect people to the beauty, and strength of wild places and thus create an appreciation, respect and desire to save these places.”

“Throughout my life, I have been fascinated by all aspects of our natural world. I grew up in the woods of Ohio. As a teen, I moved to the Arizona desert and then attended college in Colorado. Eastern woods, southwestern desert and the high alpine of the Rockies all shaped my artistic perspective. Eventually I landed in Marin County, where I have lived for the last 40 years. My fascination and appreciation of nature has led me into a life of travel and teaching science; biology, ecology and conservation.”

I have made images all my life through a wide variety of techniques: drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and painting.  Over the year I have taken art classes from many very talented teachers at the San Franciscan Art Institute, U. C. Berkeley, the San Francisco Academy of Sciences and College of Marin.
