The O’Hanlon Center for the Arts, one of Mill Valley’s most vital arts organizations, is back at it with a pair of events in September.
On Saturday, Sept. 24 (6:30-9pm), they’re hosting an intimate evening and experience of exquisitely crafted free-form musical expression through jazz and contemporary styles inspired by Deborah Winters on vocals, the masterful John Hoy on guitar and Andrew Higgins on bass and cello. The show is $25 in advance until 4pm the day of and $30 at the door. Organizers note that all sales are final and your receipt is your ticket. No refunds. Masks and Covid Vaccination Card required to enter. If you are experiencing any flu or cold symptoms, headache, sore throat, cough etc. do not attend. You may forward your tickets to another person or donate them to the artists.
On Oct. 2 at 3pm, O’Hanlon and 3Girls Theatre shifts gears from music to comedy with “retreat,” a humorous exploration of playwright and solo performer Margery Kreitman’s journey as she navigates her way through a month-long silent retreat. As she strives to find inner peace, Kreitman struggles with following the rules and overcoming her aversions to just about everything. Her fervent dislike and obsession with a young, self-righteous yogi she nicknames Lululemon nearly pushes her over the edge.
Kreitman describes this piece as “slouching toward inner silence.”
Doors open 2:30 pm, show starts 3pm. Tix are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
