The 42nd Mill Valley Film Festival concluded October 13 on the heels of screenings of 111 feature films and 98 shorts, including 13 world premieres, 10 North American premieres and 10 U.S. premieres – and appearances from a constellations of stars, including Jamie FoxxOlivia Wilde, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Alfre Woodard and, on the Closing Night, Edward Norton and James Mangold, the directors of Motherless Brooklyn and Ford v. Ferrari, respectively.

MVFF42 organizers said Tuesday that it drew more than 75,000 attendees to the 11-day event, and that the Overall Audience Award went to Opening Night film Just Mercy, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx, Michael B. Jordan, Academy Award® winner Brie Larson, Tim Blake Nelson, Rob Morgan and Karan Kendrick. The 136-minute film, which opens Dec. 25, tells the story of African American Walter McMillian (played by Foxx), who was sentenced to death for killing a white woman in 1988. A real-life, modern-day Atticus Finch in the form of recent Harvard Law grad Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) challenged a corrupt, racist system to free an innocent man.
