When people think of murals, they often picture large public artworks on commercial buildings—and Mill Valley has a few. But with Mill Valley Murals, co-founders Alex Fong and Lynsey Vera, are expanding that vision, bringing vibrant, personalized art not only to businesses but to homes as well.
A local artist and mom, Lynsey’s public works include familiar local favorites such as the red-tailed hawk at BooKoo, the Tam Valley meets Palm Springs scene at the B-Lounge/Tam Junction, and the cool birds of Upside Coffee. Beyond public spaces, Lynsey has also created many private murals in homes across the community—building lasting friendships with neighbors while delivering one-of-a-kind works of art that are as unique as the people who live there.
“Hi Lynsey – I was thinking last night about the past year and one of the best highlights was our fabulous mural, and getting to know you as you painted it. Every time I look at it, it makes me happy. I loved our chats while you worked. You are an amazing person and a very talented artist. Sending hugs!”

In the Boyle Park neighborhood, the Fong family wanted to refresh their home without costly renovations. Inspired by Mill Valley’s artistic spirit, their Hawaiian heritage, and a desire to support local talent, the dining room was transformed into a picnic spot beneath Lahaina’s iconic Banyan Tree, while their entry room now bursts with native Hawaiian flowers.
“The feeling of coming home each day is now on an entirely different level. We have Hawai‘i and chickens and flowers without having to travel, feed or water.”

To help expand and promote this good feeling, Alex Fong partnered with Lynsey to launch Mill Valley Murals, a company that creates personal, immersive, and site-specific artwork for individuals, families, and businesses throughout Mill Valley and Marin. Their plans include public and private murals, special event setups for community events, open area design, expanded artist collaborations, and a strong interest in social justice and educational opportunities.
“When our family travels, one of the things we love is seeing street art and the larger-than-life murals. It’s phenomenal. Partnering with Lynsey is a chance to bring that same feeling to our own town and county and anyone can do it—you just need a wall, a room, or a space where your creativity can shine, and suddenly you’ve created something in real life that you’ll relish and share with others.”

I love this idea! I struggle with design and trying to bring character into my home and this is a brilliant solution. I have been in funky warehouse spaces and artists lofts with large-scale murals and it never dawned on me that any sized space could have a mural! This is such a clever and playful idea to spice up a home or office.
