The Tam High football team garnered its first North Coast Section Division playoff win in 12 years on Saturday with a 27-21 win over the Petaluma. The victory earned the Red-tailed Hawks a rematch with Marin Catholic, the Goliath of the Marin County Athletic League and the squad that beat Tam 41-0 earlier this season and advanced in the playoffs last Saturday with a 66-0 win over Mt. Diablo.
“That will be our redemption game,” Schottenfeld told the Marin IJ. The game is at 1pm at Marin Catholic, 675 Sir Francis Drake Blvd.
Despite incurring a number of penalties that reversed Tam touchdowns and made the score appear closer than the game really was, the Hawks were powered by senior quarterback Nick Schottenfeld, who was 19-for-26 passing for 242 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Sebastian Chen rushed for 154 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries and Christian Son scored three rushing touchdowns, caoitalizing on all three times he touched the ball on offense. His brother Jake Son led Tamalpais defensively with 11 tackles, while Samuel Reade caught nine passes for 121 yards and Billy Kuhns had eight receptions for 113 yards.
