Nominations Are Now Open for the 2025 Milley Awards for Creative Achievement – This 33-Year-Old Mill Valley Gala Sponsored by the MV Arts Commission & Volunteer Committee Honors Local Artists in a Variety of Categories & Who Have Contributed Greatly to the Arts Community of Mill Valley
Nominations are now open for the 2025 Milley Awards for Creative Achievement. This 33-year-old Mill Valley gala event sponsored by the Mill Valley Arts Commission and the volunteer Milley Executive Committee, honors local artists in the literary, visual, musical, and performance arts as well as those who have contributed greatly to the arts community of Mill Valley. Nominations with a maximum of 10 pages of supporting materials for each candidate are due at Mill Valley City Hall no later than noon on Thursday, April 17. Seven accomplished Mill Valley residents will be honored at an elegant program and buffet supper from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, October 27 at the Mill Valley Community Center. The six will receive bronze statuettes designed by the late sculptor John Libberton. Mill Valley is the only city in Marin County that officially recognizes the talents and achievements of people in the arts.

Calling all true crime fans! Don’t miss the first play of Marin Theatre’s 24/25 season, award-winning Canadian playwright Kat Sandler’s hit Yaga. This comedy with plenty of twists begins as a classic whodunit that veers into supernatural territory when the mythic Baba Yaga enters the story. A big-city detective finds himself in a small town, wondering what the disappearance of the young heir to a yogurt fortune has to do with random lore about an old witch. The women of the town then weave a tale of folklore and foul play that will have you laughing, and keep you guessing until the very end.

“We find that happiness is aligned with specific quality of life ratings. In particular, jobs, leisure, and housing,” Baldassare said, according to the report. “In our polling, we also looked at personal finance. But the biggest change we’ve seen over time has been satisfaction with jobs, which went from 52% saying they were very satisfied in our first polling to 31% today.” Other polling, by Gallup, asked Californians to rate their satisfaction of life from 1 to 10. A research team from the University of Oxford then compiled all 215,801 responses into a map of the state, broken down by county.
