On Sept. 16th, the City Council Unanimously Backed an Array of Exciting New Measures, from a Boyle Park Redesign, a Pair of Sand Volleyball Courts, Clarified Rules for Depot Plaza, the Case for Vibrancy and Much More
“The plaza was hopping all (last) weekend with families and kids and the elderly,” said Vice Mayor Stephen Burke. “It was really vibrant, and if we think back to this ordinance being addressed in 2015, the Depot was on life support entering a moment of real uncertainty.Ā A lot has changed in our town, and the policies youāre putting are a recognition of that change. You’ve really hit your stride, and I trust that youāll do the right thing,” Burke said to Howe.” “The intent is not to make Mill Valley into the Greek Theater,” Carmel said. “There is definitely a Mill Valley vibe. It’s not a loud rock n roll thing ā just lively on the plaza. How do you bring vibrancy into downtown.Ā We don’t control rent, but we canĀ do certain things about how to make downtown vibrant.”

The Hivery remains alive and well, even after closing the brick-and-mortar spaces, still after all these years, fully committed to serving women creating their next chapters, unveiling new membership and mentorship offerings, creating pop-up coworking sessions at local businesses, and continuing her Incubator program for women entrepreneurs. She evolved her community and created The Hiveryās Momentum Lab (a mentorship, accountability, and community for women creating solo-based businesses). In the years since, Kraaijvanger continues to blend innovation and resilience, engaging with all manner of complementary organizations to co-host events, including an Own Your Voice event at Assembly, hosting book talks and a fundraiser at Club Evexia in May 2023, a food and wellness fair in Sept. 2022, as well as a collaboration with Poet and/the Bench for a Summer Soulstice Soiree in June 2023.

She calls the book āa collection of intimate stories that invites you to unlock caustic, emasculating, judgmental conversations around dating and relationships.ā She says she hopes that women who read it will release resentment, increase gratitude, and multiply enjoyment of and with men. In reaching a bountiful moment in her career, Lewis acknowledges plenty of bumps along the way and says sheās thriving because of and not in spite of those challenges.

Laurie Reemsnyder, a graduate with an Art Ed degree from Rhode Island School of Design who and has been teaching Photography since 1999, in Vallejo and at Marin Catholic, is the Mill Valley Chamber’s selection as Artist of the month for August. Recognizing that art is transformative and connects us all as humans, Reemsnyder designed a photo project that was implemented each summer on her service trips to Cambodia, Costa Rica, Fiji, Thailand, Bosnia and Peru.

As we head into the fall, with Concerts in the Plaza, Mill Valley Film Festival and the Fall Arts Fest, Mill Valley Recreation still has a pair of exciting films for fans of all ages tee’d up for the annual Movies in the Park series! The series launched in August with āTrolls Band Togetherā on August 2nd in Old Mill Park, and there are two more coming very soon. On Sept. 6, “Trolls Band Together” hits the big screen on Sept. 6th at Old Mill Park. One month later, āBarbie,ā one of the most successful film of the past five years, will be showcased on Oct. 4 at Old Mill Park in Mill Valley. Movies begin at sunset. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair. Admission is free.
