Award-winning composer, producer, educator and musician Richard Howell brings his multi-generational jazz ensemble Sudden Changes, which has roots in revival meetings that summon positive energy and compassion for coexistence through the frequency of love, to the Throckmorton Theatre on Feb. 26.
Howell, who has worked and recorded with legends such as Etta James, Chaka Khan, and Maurice White, as well as with new voices of jazz such as Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah, has performed with pop, soul, and jazz music industry icons on stages across the globe, from the Zellerbach Hall to the Royal Albert Hall.
Sudden Changes features a number of acclaimed musicians alongside Howell, including pianist Glen Pearson, who currently performs with the Count Basie Orchestra, along with bassist David Ewell, trumpeter Rafa Postel, drummer Ele Salif and master percussionist David Frazier.
Howell calls his music “Bridge Music,” as it “celebrates diversity as it bridges, unites and merges the experience of all listeners. I define it as Bridge Music.”
