After a Hugely Successful Ballot Measure L in 2024 to Address Massive Infrastructure Needs of $150 Million to $180 Million in the Next 10-15 Years, City Officials Now Look to Implement the 1% Sales Tax Hike, Effective April 1st

Effective April 1, 2025, the sales tax rate for the City of Mill Valley will increase from 8.25% to 9.25% All taxpayers will receive a special notice regarding new sales and use tax rates effective April 1, 2025, 30 days before the new rates start either via e-notice or a letter format that has a “Special Notice” on the top. The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration will post the notice on their Special Notices and Notification Letters website. https://www.cdtfa.ca.gov/news/special-notices-and-notification-letters.htm. Approved by Mill Valley voters with the passage of Measure L in November 2024, this local sales tax increase of 1% is estimated to bring our community an additional $4.2 million in revenue per year. The City will begin receiving funds in June 2025 to directly support community identified priorities such as wildfire prevention, roads, bridges, emergency routes, flood mitigation, hillside stabilization, and repairing City facilities like the Public Safety Building, Community Center, Library, as well as City playgrounds and fields.

Marin IJ Editorial: Big Tech’s AI Pitch Seeks License to Steal – This Editorial is Being Published in more than 60 Daily Newspapers Throughout the MediaNews Group and Tribune Publishing Networks

This country has dominated the world of news and information by respecting not just the precious freedom of the press but also its right to protect its work. Had it not done so, there would have been no economic base on which to build the kinds of news organizations that can, and still do, keep a check on the government. Heck, there would have been no economic basis to build anything creative whatsoever. Securing permission from, and fairly compensating, those publishers who created this great foundation of knowledge is the right, just and American thing to do. The government should reject these self-serving proposals and protect the work of artists, authors, photographers, journalists and all other creators and copyright holders who have been the victims of these companies.
