The ladies are taking over the Mill Valley Arts Commission’s vaunted Comedy in the Plaza in 2022.

For the first time in its history, Mill Valley’s annual evening of hilarity on the downtown plaza features a trio of amazing, multi-talented female comics. The free event is set for Thursday, June 16 (times TBD).

Two of the performers will be familiar to Comedy in the Plaza regulars, starting with Jann Karam, whose numerous TV credits include playing one of Jerry Seinfeld’s girlfriends on the iconic, eponymous show. A stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and artist, Karam has made numerous appearances on NBC’s Tonight Show and The Late Show with David Letterman and guest starred on countless TV sitcoms. Her award-winning short film Under the Big Muu-Muu is about her mother’s irritating and funny weekend visit. In Los Angeles, Karam performs her critically acclaimed theatrical solo show, Reclining Nude on La Cienega, and she regularly performs standup on tour with Dana Carvey.

There’s also comedian Maureen Langan, who was an on-air personality for KGO in San Francisco, has performed on Broadway with Rosie O’Donnell and has shared the stage with Robin Williams, Steven Wright, Joy Behar, Gladys Knight and Jordin Sparks…just to name a few. Langan believes there are important insights to be culled from comedians, which is why she tailors her TEDx Talk, “The Business of Fun: Lessons Learned from Performing in South Africa,” to companies and organizations looking for a thought-provoking and entertaining talk about diversity, equity and inclusion in our work, lives and culture. She currently hosts the podcast Hangin’ with Langan, where she interviews comics to activists and academics to alcoholics.

Rounding out the trio is Maggie Maye, who says she loves candy almost as much as she also loves performing comedy. Maye was highlighted on Gotham Comedy Live and made her late night debut on Conan. She’s performed at festivals such as Bridgetown Comedy Festival, FunFunFun Fest, Moontower Comedy & Oddity Festival, SXSW, and the All Jane Comedy Festival. She’s opened for Paul Rodriguez, Godfrey, Paul Mooney, and Earth, Wind and Fire.

City officials approved a street closure of the block of Miller Ave. between Throckmorton and Sunnyside avenues for the duration of the event, allowing the event to accommodate more people comfortably and giving families access to outdoor dining for the performance. It’ll also give retailers the opportunity to sell their wares outside.
