As we get closer to the massive celebration of Mill Valley’s 125th Anniversary, there’s plenty more detail to chew on.
Mill Valley’s Quasiquicentennial – On Labor Day Weekend, August 30 – September 1, we’re celebrating Mill Valley’s Quasiquicentennial, otherwise known as its 125th Anniversary! This is our chance to honor our community’s history, to recognize its growth and maturation, to strengthen community bonds and to look together towards our future. Read more about why we celebrate, our past celebrations and how we’re celebrating the 125th, including the roles of community members such as 2025 Milley Award Honoree Joyce Kleiner.
Regular Registration for Mill Valley’s Parade of Floats! – September 1st caps a three-day weekend celebrating Mill Valley’s 125th Anniversary, and the day begins with a historically-themed Parade of Floats. Regular registration is now open. Learn more about the parade and use the online application to enter.
Have Fun and Make History as a 125th Anniversary Celebration Volunteer! – This Labor Day weekend includes three days of celebrating Mill Valley’s 125th Anniversary, including the dedication of the restored Old Mill Roof, Concerts in the Plaza, the historically-themed Parade of Floats, Downtown History Walks, Festival of Mill Valley Short Films, Singing “Mill Valley” with Rita Abrams, Birthday Cake for all, and Curtain Theatre’s 25th Anniversary performance of “As You Like It.”

It Takes a Village – 125th Birthday Celebrations don’t come along very often. While making the occasion memorable is a high priority, making it inclusive and accessible to all is equally important. Donors to the 125th Anniversary Celebration have been showing their support of both the celebration activities as well as of the restoration of the Old Mill Roof through their donations to date.
Please join them in making your own contribution at whatever level is right for you.
The area we call Mill Valley was inhabited for thousands of years by the Coastal Miwoks prior to the decision to incorporate on September 1, 1900. Since that time, our community has regularly celebrated that historic moment in the long history of this special area at the base and on the hillsides of majestic Mount Tamalpais.
Our intent for the celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the Incorporation of the City of Mill Valley is to bring our community together for a common awareness and commitment to this special town and surrounding community.
As part of that effort, the Mill Valley 125th Anniversary Committee is sponsoring a series of articles by noted local historian and author Joyce Kleiner. These articles are intended to foster understanding, and pride, in Mill Valley’s history, and will focus on some of the people and events that shaped Mill Valley’s spirit of stewardship, volunteerism, and community involvement.
Our efforts will culminate in a wide range events on Labor Day, Monday, September 1, 2025, including an historically-themed parade, live music, an ice cream social, screenings of historical videos, and tours of the Old Mill. These events are for all those whose lives have been touched by Mill Valley, including neighborhoods and nearby communities who have both benefitted from and been impacted by the City’s development.
We recognize that the rich history of our community includes the people who came before us centuries ago, living on and stewarding the land for thousands of years, as well as those who were deliberately excluded from our town in the more recent past. With this recognition comes Mill Valley’s collective commitment to foster equity, inclusion and belonging for all in the present and future.
If you’ve worked here, lived here, attended school here, you are an important part of this community and we hope to see you on September 1, 2025!
