“During his many years in Recreation, Sean has demonstrated visionary and collaborative leadership and the ability to lead and motivate staff, as well as working with a diverse workforce and community,” Piombo said.
Piombo said McGrew “has managed the Recreation Department’s response to the pandemic, providing emergency shelter for fire evacuees, and the re-envisioning of the City’s Arts and Recreation programs.”
“This past year completely upended the departments that offer in-person programming such as Recreation,” Mayor John McCauley said. “But under Sean’s leadership, we continued to serve our community with innovative Recreation and Arts programming to keep us connected and active. I want to thank Sean for his unflappable resilience through it all.”
McGrew has more than 40 years of recreation experience, which began at 14 years-old, cleaning pools and teaching swimming for San Francisco Recreation and Parks.
