Kid-Centric Shop Tantrum at MV Lumber Yard Turns One, Celebrates First Year, Touts Slim Chance Circus Performance & Free Popcorn – July 21st, 2-3pm
Tantrum – the ultra-creative retail shop that moved into the Mill Valley Lumber Yard in October 2023 – is celebrating its first anniversary, and they’re doing so with plenty of fun, as usual. They’re bringing in a Slim Chance Circus performance, as well as free popcorn, on July 21st from 2-3pm, with 10% off in MV Tantrum all day long.

Callie Zimmerman, who just graduated from Marin Academy and will be attending Tufts University in the fall, is the Mill Valley Chamber’s selection as Artist of the month and more. “I will be pursuing a dual degree and will end with a masters in photography from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA), so I am excited to continue to pursue photography,” Zimmerman says.” She will show her work from Jul 16 through Aug 31, with First Tuesday Artwalk set for August 6th, 5:30-7:30pm.

“The largest item on November’s ballot is a $10 to 20 billion regional bond that, if passed, promises to create 45,000 affordable homes in the nine-county Bay Area,” he wrote. “It’s sponsored by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s Bay Area Housing Finance Agency. BAHFA reports that “a $10 billion bond would require a tax of $10.26 per $100,000 in assessed value – or about $100 per year for a million-dollar home.” Double that if the bond is for $20 billion.”

Regardless of where you stood on the possible extension of Depot Plaza at the time, one thing was clear: Mill Valley residents, businesses, employees and Mill Valley-adjacents had thoughts, as City officials received more than 1,800 individual responses to the survey. Goldberg’s creativity never ceases. This week, they opened for lunch and “we really feel that doing grab and go is really missing on the street,” she says. “We’ll have slices and salads, quick and accessible at reasonable prices for the first week,” she says. “It will all be free. Our hours are going to be lunch until it’s gone, and of course you can still sit down and order a glass of wine and have your pizza alfresco and any of our favorite, but we wanted to fill a void on the street, which is slices, healthy salads, quickly – “Tpie On the Fly.”

Gene Della Zoppa, CEO of Mill Valley Refuse Service, said the rate increase is due to the current economy. Della Zoppa said for the years 2022 to 2024, the company had an average rate increase of 4.25%. “Other cities across the Unites States are also seeing increases related to solid waste collection,” Della Zoppa said. Additionally, he said some of the biggest costs are labor, disposal costs, workers compensation, and insurance. A union contract negotiated last year resulted in a 15% hourly wage increase for drivers, and this year the drivers’ get a 5.5% increase.”

It all kicked off with the return of the Mill Valley Volunteer Firefighters’ Association’s Pancake Breakfast from 7-11am in front of Mill Valley City Hall, serving as the biggest fundraiser of the year for Mill Valley’s volunteer firefighter program. The gathering continued with an array of law enforcement and other agencies Honoring Our Fallen Heroes with a Memorial Day ceremony at Lytton Square, the newly redesigned, tree-laden island that splits the road between Miller and Corte Madera avenues into two and is named for Lytton Barber, Mill Valley’s first WWI casualty.

“The film is soaked in liquid, and hand processed in one of just a few labs that process this type of film in the US,” she says. “This type of photography is ‘experimental, and the process is called ‘Film Soup.’
