In a Small But Significant Step Forward Toward Mill Valley’s Housing Goals, Planning Commissioner Backs Steve Geiszler’s Five-Unit, Two-Story Town Homes at 20 Sunnyside Ave.
āAs a community, the challenge we have is accepting more housing and accepting more density of housing, and to not have that development to be all based on the automobile,ā said Greg Hildebrand, a member of the commission. āThis is in a perfect place to walk everywhere. You can get to everything in this location. Itās right downtown. Weāre going to need to add housing. Even if itās housing of any scale, we need more units. This is one of these projects that Bruce Dorfman noted, this is kind of the future of how to develop a site to get as much housing as possible without having a building and extra land to park cars.

The voter-approved formation of the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority has advanced long-needed work to create and maintain so-called āfuel breaksā in hopes of giving fire crews a fighting chance to save neighborhoods. Crews have been working to create large fuel breaks in Ross Valley and Novato. Reducing vegetation along evacuation routes has been another priority.

The entire village of 250 affordable apartments will rest on about 8 acres at the site of a former San Quentin State Prison gun range. It is near the Larkspur ferry terminal, a Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit station, bus stops, bike trails and other amenities. The entire project, which began in the planning stages about four years ago, has been estimated to cost about $238 million.

Researchers found that by directing evacuees to use a less-frequented on-ramp to Highway 101 off Hamilton Drive, implementing a contraflow strategy on East Blithedale Avenue, and encouraging households to evacuate with only one vehicle significantly reduced overall evacuation times, cutting nearly 2 hours off the process.Ā In response, in 2024, City officials conducted staff drills, revamped evacuation routes, and emphasized to residents the message:Ā āTake one car, save the lives of those behind you.ā This strategy ensures a faster, safer evacuation for all residents. Tamalpais Scenic Railway. It has become a permanent home for the brilliantly recreated Gravity Car and an interpretive display highlighting this special time in California and Mt. Tamalpais history. The Barn has been constructed over a section of the 98 feet of standard gauge track at the historic rail siding on East Peak and will serve as an educational facility and visitor center for Marin and beyond.
