Woander Owner Matthew Purdon Brings Families Into a Living Fairy Tale with The Wylding Woods!
Given a mission by the storybook fairy Lexivandrielle, adventurers set out to awaken the ancientĀ spirit Greenheart, finding clues, casting spells, and helping magical fairy tale creatures. āOur live experience invites children to become an integral part of the story where their actionsĀ drive the adventure forward,ā says Director and Writer Matthew Purdon. āIn todayās screen-saturated world, this is a rare opportunity for kids to not just consume but co-create a fairy tale together surrounded by natural beauty.ā Purdon, a trained actor, artist and technology designer, was the co-founder of Odyssey Works,Ā an early pioneer in transformative immersive experiences. He first dreamed up The WyldingĀ Woods. on walks through the redwoods with his children and then further developed it through workshops and playtests with Bay Area families, culminating in a sold-out preview last June.

Beth Davila Waldman is a cross-disciplinary artist using photography, painting, assemblage and installation. Her work explores the impact of socio-political trends on cultural landscapes, often through imagery laden with indicators of economic and social status, presented in a manner that emulates the sheer stress of imposed change. Waldmanās constructed vistas re-conceive the notion of sanctuary amidst the realities of colonization, and invite meditations on civil access. Waldman imbues her work with a unique materiality by printing or transferring photographs on a plethora of materialsāfrom tarp to sails, canvas to paper.

Poet and/the Bench begins a series of celebrations of emerging contemporaryĀ design for their 10th year anniversary in November. On October 4, visitingĀ Topanga Canyon-based fine artistĀ Danielle HutchensĀ will be in person for herĀ Between Soil and Sky exhibition reception. Danielle has adopted using earth-friendly practices in her art. Her paintings primarily feature natural pigments she harvests and develops, a beautifully archival and non-toxic medium. Her new collection was created after the Los Angeles fires when āsmall thingsā tender shoots, shy budsā started to unfurl. Life, working underground in the quiet dark, was beginning again and in a soft, yet vibrant way.ā

In the years since JayĀ Tamang, a longtime employee at Whole Foods Market on East Blithedale, left his native Nepal in 2004, his thoughts have rarely strayed from his home country. Tamang, who spent years there earning $2/day as a trekking guide in Katmandu before eventually moving to the United States with his wife Biba and their children, has maintained strong ties in Nepal, regularly visiting and donating his time and money to lift his former friends, family and neighbors. That was never more true than in April 2015 in the aftermath of the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal, whichĀ sent Tamang and his family reeling. Tamang’s been an avid photographer for years, and he continues to showcase his work at venues all over town, including at Engel & Volkers.Ā
