Marin Voice: Felecia Gaston, Founder of the Marin City Historical and Preservation Society, Touts Educational Exhibit Honors Contributions of Black Marinship Workers
In various parts across America, states are removing Black history from schools. The Marin County Office of Education is doing the opposite. It gives me great pleasure to partner with the Office of Education to host the Marin City historical traveling exhibit and publication, “A Brand New Start … This is Home” into the 62 public school libraries and classrooms.

The projects listed needed to fit with the OAC’s purpose of being “dedicated to the protection and beautification of outdoor spaces, wildlife conservation, and other civic, literary, and charitable work.” They span 14 local organizations garnering $75,000 in grants.

Mercer, as the organization’s Artistic Director, as well as members of the non-profit board, would look to negotiate a long-term lease with the new owner. “I remain fully dedicated to this business and its service to our community. I believe the next generation will only make it stronger,” says Mercer.

The visitor center for this old-growth redwood forest, named in honor of the influential American author, activist, and naturalist, is just over three miles west of Mill Valley.
