Her sneakers show the miles, but they held up long enough to carry Audrey MacLean to her first Dipsea victory on Sunday morning. With bloody knees and aching feet, MacLean removed her shoes and socks at the aid station after crossing the finish line, but made sure not to lose track of them. “They’re the same shoes I wore in my junior year in high school,” the Redwood High grad said, recalling the 2021 season when she placed 16th at the CIF State Cross Country Division II Championship. On Sunday, Tiburon’s MacLean, 19, crossed the finish line at Stinson Beach to win the 114th Dipsea and made history in the process. She became the first female runner between the ages of 10 and 33 to win the Dipsea — famous for its handicapping system, which has produced a mix of younger and older winners.

Director Becca Wolff discovered the script through actor friend Rosie Hallett. “It’s brilliant, funny and engaging,” Wolff said. “I love dark comedy, and I love suspense, and this play has both. Plus, the comedy and the terror both come from an unlikely and provocative source — ‘workplace culture,’ including identity-based violence. … The nightmare scenario Sofia finds herself in is the experience of many people who find themselves victims of workplace hostility and harassment.”

The Tamalpais Valley project also has attracted criticism because of its location in an area that has been classified as a flood zone by the Federal Emergency Management Agency; the scant number of parking spaces being supplied; and its height. Several planning commissioners expressed concerns about these and other issues during a hearing on Thursday. County planning staff the county is powerless to mandate any changes that aren’t based on strict, objective design standards and gross threats to public health. “Understand that we cannot require any parking for this project,” Marin County Planning Manager Jeremy Tejirian said.
