Mill Valley Recreation and the Mill Valley Arts Commission unveiled the winners this week of their 2nd reCYCLE Outdoor Art Contest, celebrating bicycling, art and recycling with an exhibit of bike wheel-centric kinetic artwork along the Friends Field fence, adjacent to the cyclist-laden Mill Valley-Sausalito Multi-Use Path.

The contest, inspired by a similar project Arts Commissioner Teresa Rea first spotted at Pioneer Park in Seattle, debuted in 2015 with artists using recycled bicycle wheels and using them as the basis for their own distinctive artistic interpretations.

“The concept evokes the enthusiasm of our many local bicyclists, young and old,” Rea says. “It also reflects our socially responsible community’s support for recycling.”

The winners’ artwork will be on display for all of August along the fence line of Friends Field at the Mill Valley Community Center – 180 Camino Alto. Here they are:
