Filmmaker Jeffrey Brown spoke at the Outdoor Art Club last month about Sold, his 2014 film that gives voice to 1.8 million children who are trafficked every year into sexual slavery. The incredible response to the event has led the OAC to host a subsequent screening of the film on Sunday, April 23 at 3pm.

Brown has had a storied career, directing episodes of The Wonder Years and L.A. Law and winning an Academy Award in 1986 for his film Molly’s Pilgrim. But no project of Brown’s has drawn as much acclaim – and sparked a subsequent movement – as Sold. The 2014 film, based on Patricia McCormick’s novel of the same name, tells the story of Lakshmi who is the victim of human trafficking, a saga that takes her from a rural village in Nepal to a brothel called Happiness House in India. Lakshmi risks everything for freedom, and Brown shone a light on the seemingly ubiquitous but still invisible issue of human trafficking.

OAC officials are asking for a minimum donation of $10 to benefit the non-profit Courageous Girls in their iRest training Project, a trauma-informed Yoga Nidra practice that seeks to stabilize and heal PTSD.

The 411: Sold screens on Sunday, April 23 at 3pm at the Outdoor Art Club, One West Blithedale, Mill Valley. Admission limited to first 200 people. Here’s the trailer for Sold:
