Sara Wasserman’s Music Heals International has done it again.
The organization, which brings music and musicians to the children of Haiti and globally “to inspire achievement, resiliency, and creativity,” has long had a knack for gathering world class musicians for its annual benefit show at the Sweetwater Music Hall.
The 2023 edition of the event serves as the 10th anniversary concert, a “one-time only night of musical collaborations honoring the late, great Rob Wasserman – a gathering of legends, including acclaimed jazz bassist Christian McBride, ALO guitarist Lebo (Dan Lebowitz), Arcade Fire guitarist Paul Beaubrun, Dead & Company drummer Jay Lane and turntablist DJ Logic, all of whom will perform in various configurations in a night of musical collaborations on Monday, November 20. McBride will play Rob Wasserman’s bass for the first time since 2016, where it’s been stored at Bob Weir’s TRI Studios.
Founded by Sara Wasserman, MHI was started in an effort to bring music education to the children of the Delmas 32 community in Port-an-Prince, Haiti and beyond. MHI provides free music education to children in Haiti impacted by poverty, natural disaster and disability.
The benefit concert on Monday, November 20 comes in tribute to Sara’s father, late musician Rob Wasserman. The Grammy-winning bassist best known for his collaborations with Bob Weir as both a duo and in RatDog passed away in 2016 at age 64. Previous Music Heals International benefits have featured surprise special guests and this year’s concert is expected to follow in that same tradition.
