The past 48 hours have provided no shortage of opportunities to see some of Mill Valley’s finest at work in the community, preparing our municipalities, residents and businesses for the storms and doling out relentless emergency preparedness info. But our incredible emergency responder organizations are not the only people doing the heavy lifting.
Southern Marin CERTS – short for the Community Emergency Response Team program that educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may occur where they live – have been incredibly impactful this week. CERT trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills, such as: Fire safety. Light search and rescue. Team organization. out in the field during the last 48 hours.
As well as delivering flood information to high risk zones in Sycamore Park and Tam Valley, a group of CERTS were also briefed by Battalion Chief Vollmer at Station 7 in case extra help was needed last night with downed power lines. If you are interested in becoming a CERT member, join an informational zoom call on January 11th by signing up here.
