For the Mill Valley artistic community, opportunities to showcase their work in person have been few and far between over the past 18 months.
If all goes according to plan, that will change on Oct. 5, when the Mill Valley Arts Commission returns to in-person First Tuesday Artwalks. Masks may be required in galleries, as well as maintaining at least 6 feet distance from others.
The Mill Valley Chamber at 85 Throckmorton Ave. is among the venues (at center above), exhibiting the incredible work of Mill Valley artist Tess Felix, who creates mosaic portraits from plastic debris collected along the shore close to her home. Felix sees these items as “curious remnants of our daily life. My works are a mosaic of parts of cell phones, discarded plugs, dental picks, bottle caps, fishing gear, old batteries, hairbrushes and surprisingly frequent plastic tubes and nets from oyster farming,” Felix says.
As you can see from the images above, Felix’s spellbinding work spans an array of subjects, including a self portrait, at left, a portrayal of Pope Francis, at center, and of Yolanda, at right. An Artists Reception is set for Tuesday, Oct. 5, 5:30-7:30pm.
