With that in mind, the Mill Valley Friends of Parks and Recreation works with the city to ensure that Mill Valley’s fields, recreation programs and facilities continue to be a first-class experience. Over the past year-plus, the organization has helped fund projects like the Skate Park renovation, improvements at the Mill Valley Golf Course, landscaping outside the Community Center, the Community Garden annex, the Dog Park Agility Course, a scholarship matching program and more sports field renovations.
At a multi-faceted fundraiser on Feb. 6, the group was at it again, raising more than $180,000, with 100 percent of proceeds dedicated to Parks and Recreation projects, including $60,000 for a Fund-A-Need for three projects: scholarships for Mill Valley Recreation programs, a Bicycle Pump Track and Community Coffee, a coffee cart kiosk from Integrated Community Services (ICS) in the Community Center lobby, set to debut later this year, which will provide paid, on-the-job training for individuals with disabilities to equip them with the skills needed for bright careers. The coffee cart is supported by Equator Coffees and Mill Valley Recreation.
The benefit featured food from local restaurants and performances by the MVMS Bluegrass Band and Johnny and June Forever.
