In the five years since Mill Valley resident Grace Kraaijvanger opened The Hiverythe female-fueled “co-working space and inspiration lab” has been an inclusive force of nature at 38 Miller Avenue. Two years ago, Kraaijvanger expanded the business to San Francisco, opening a second location at the Fort Mason Center for the Arts + Culture.

And then the pandemic hit, and Kraaijvanger, among those aided by the Mill Valley Chamber’s COVID-19 Biz Fund and already a relentless innovator, feverishly sought ways to creatively manage the turbulence for a business that relies on in-person connection but was unable to do so for more than a year. The Hivery closed its doors when the order in March but transitioned to a Virtual Membership + Online Community.

But the steady stream of post-June 15th reopening continues this week with the full reopening of The Hivery. “We are so excited to see all of your beautiful smiling faces in person!!!,” Kraaijvanger wrote to her community. When we closed in March 2020, we could have never imagined that we wouldn’t be able to reopen until June 28th, 2021. And we could have never guessed the tenacity and pivot after pivot that would be required to make it through this. We often felt like the Little Engine That Could as we chugged through the uncertainty.”

“And although this time brought a lot of difficulty and hardship, it also brought a lot of clarity, growth, and creativity. We adapted to the “new normal.” she added. “We pivoted our business to be fully online for well over a year. And we had the support of the most kind community there is. SO TODAY WE RING THE VICTORY BELL!!!! We are grateful each and every day to have you all in our community, whether you are joining us in person or you are with us virtually, we get to celebrate today because of you.”
