Marin IJ: Mill Valley Middle School to Halt $130 Million Middle School Modernization Project, Due to Environmental Issues – Terra Marin School Agrees to Vacate
According to the Marin IJ, environmental issues have put plans for a new $130 million Mill Valley Middle School on hold, according to consultants for the school district. The delay is for more studies at the campus at 425 Sycamore Ave., which used to be a burn dump. The district’s plan is to demolish the school and rebuild it at the same site. Sandrine Hitchcock, a program manager for the construction consulting firm AECOM, discussed the project during a public forum on Thursday, saying the last step of the California Environmental Quality Act process is expected in July.
Philip Fath, a ‘Musician’s Musician,’ Died Peacefully at the Age of 95 on July 5, 2024 – He Was Principal Clarinet of the SF Opera & Symphony, Beloved Family Man and Mill Valley Musician
On October 28 at 5pm, there will be a free musical celebration of life for Phil at the Throckmorton Theatre. Performers will be some of Phil’s fellow musicians from the SF Opera and Symphony. All are welcome. The family has asked that gifts and donations be made to the Throckmorton Theatre instead of the family, a wonderful and supportive gesture to the theatre Phil loved so much (and performed at frequently). Phil was a deeply loved community member with a talent rare and fantastic.

Marin Voice: Cost of Housing in our County has Become Obscene
I have met a number of Marin residents facing homelessness. One works full-time while also caring for her developmentally disabled son. Another pays more in rent than her entire monthly income, watching her savings shrink monthly. These residents are in their 70s. They are scared, angry and feel betrayed by their community. They do not match the stereotypes of the homeless.

Bingo is Back at Our Lady of Mount Carmel – Join Your Friends and Neighbors at OLMC for a Great Night of Bingo
For six or seven years, Bingo was going strong at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Mill Valley. Then… the pandemic began and gatherings were no longer possible. Now, this great community event is back, as Mark and Shawn Klender, along with parishioner Jill Thornton, have stepped up to reinstate Bingo for our church and for our local community. “Bingo brings everyone together, and it’s been so long!” says Mark Klender.
Poet and/the Bench Welcomes Elina Peduzzi and Rosemary Carmen Smith for ‘Interconnected Opposing Forces’ – Thursday, October 24, 3-7pm
Bonnie Powers and Jeffrey Levin, owners of the multi-faceted Poet and/the Bench lifestyle store and jewelry atelier space at 11 Throckmorton Ave., continue to curate creativity, with ‘Interconnected Opposing Forces,’ an event set for Thursday, October 25 from 3-7pm. The event features a pair of artists via both sculpture and Cut Paper Collage. Seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interdependent and interconnected. Finding harmony and balance in systems in which the forces are constantly changing, can trip the imagination into innovation gear. Such is the story with the two artists, featured in Poet and/the Bench’s latest exhibit.

Marin IJ’s Jeff Burkhart: Meet the Man Behind the Smash Hit Corner Bar – Jason Sims
The partners’ ultimate vision for Corner Bar is to “blend the authentic charm of a neighborhood bar with the sultriness of a cocktail lounge. We want to celebrate the best of both worlds and infuse a new late night energy to downtown Mill Valley.” Corner Bar’s central location near Sweetwater Music Hall, the Throckmorton Theatre, and Mill Valley Film Festival makes it the ideal destination for pre-show or post-show drinks and bites.
