Enjoy Mill Valley

Open Kimono: As the Mill Valley Music Fest Heads Toward the Four-Year Mark, It’s a Great Reminder of Why We Created It – It’s Not Just a Big Party, It Matters to Us Deeply, and It Supports ALL of Our Amazing Community, and Beyond!
Our Chamber members, primarily businesses, nonprofits and individuals, know who we are and what we stand for. But we haven’t always articulated that as well as we could to the broader community that doesn’t engage with our newsletters, blogs and social channels. MVMF is about continuing to be better neighbors to those within and around our community.
Mill Valley Chamber’s ‘MVMF Teaser’ Concerts Head to the Finish Line With Bourbon Street Brass Band – April 26th, Strawberry Village on the Turf, 12:30-2pm & Nancy Fawson & the Corner Pocket Band @ MV ReUse Fest, April 27th, Mill Valley Community Center – Funk Buddies, 12pm-1pm, Nancy Fawson, 1pm-2:30pm
We’re firmly in the camp of there being no such thing as too much live music in Mill Valley. To that end, while we wake up every day to make the 2025 Mill Valley Music Fest the best version of itself, we’re also focused on getting you excited for a series of pop-up shows around town. NEXT UP: Meggy Travers Hosts a Sing-Along as Part of the Spring Faire on Saturday, March 29 at the Mill Valley Community Center, 10am-1pm!
Mill Valley Celebrates 125 – Save the Date for the 125th Anniversary Celebration!!
Our intent for the celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the Incorporation of the City of Mill Valley is to bring our community together for a common awareness and commitment to this special town and surrounding community. As part of that effort, the Mill Valley 125th Anniversary Committee is sponsoring a series of articles by noted local historian and author Joyce Kleiner. These articles are intended to foster understanding, and pride, in Mill Valley’s history, and will focus on some of the people and events that shaped Mill Valley’s spirit of stewardship, volunteerism, and community involvement. Our efforts will culminate in a wide range events on Labor Day, Monday, September 1, 2025, including an historically-themed parade, live music, an ice cream social, screenings of historical videos, and tours of the Old Mill.

Marin IJ: Trump Administration Warns Marin Schools About DEI Programs
Carroll said that federal money, which accounts for approximately 10% of local schools’ total funding, is not used for DEI efforts. Carroll said the California Department of Education has not heard back from the federal government since issuing its responses. News of the ultimatum to Marin schools surfaced during the April 15 meeting of the Marin County Board of Education. Carroll provided members of the board with a brief summary of the DEI issue as part of the report that he provides at every meeting. The matter wasn’t agendized for discussion.

The San Francisco Standard: ‘Two Crazy Women’ Are Bucking Multiple Industry Trends: Expand to the Presidio, Then Mill Valley in Early 2026, Near the Seaplane Adventures Space Along the Waterfront
Margherita Sagan’s husband, Loring, is the cofounder and partner in Build, a firm that does residential development in San Francisco. He and Margherita recently bought a decrepit waterfront building in Mill Valley, at 242 Redwood Highway Frontage Road, where the Grateful Dead once practiced and still functions as the base for seaplane tours. It will house Piccino No. 3. Like everything Rogat and Sagan do, the Mill Valley project has been a little nuts, as any property dealing with water elements will be. But with the building permits secured, they hope things are on track for 2026.

Friends of the Mill Valley Library Has a Volunteer Opportunity for Enthusiastic Volunteers to Lend a Hand in the Friends Bookstore
The Friends of the Library are looking for a couple of enthusiastic volunteers to lend a hand in the Friends Bookstore. The task involves carefully packing overstocked books into sturdy bankers boxes, loading them onto a cart (each box weighs around 30 pounds), transferring the packed boxes to another location in the Bookstore, and then stacking them neatly. This should take about 1 to 2 hours, 1 or 2 days a week. If you’re interested, reach out to Friends board member Jim Derich at jim.derich@friendsmvl.org.

More than anything, The Mill Valley Music Festival is about continuing to be better neighbors to those within and around our community. Whether it’s our years-long support for the We Are One Marin Campaign highlighting BIPOC-owned businesses or our longstanding coverage of inequity in our town, from historic to much more recent and shining a light on discrimination among us, we’re committed to making our town more equitable. That’s not a heavy ask – it’s just connecting the dots toward opportunity.
We’ll continue to strive for ways to use the power of this lil’ music festival to bring both sonic joy and more opportunity to our friends and neighbors.
