Marin Voice: Governor Newsom Should Protect CalHome Funding in New Budget

The lack of support for this problem has widespread implications that go far beyond the struggles of individuals and families. Communities suffer from the transience encouraged by rental housing. Local economies are deprived of the investment homeowners make and the stable supply of workers who set down roots for the long term. Children without stable housing live more disrupted lives with poorer educational outcomes, which prevents them from accessing high income-earning opportunities as they grow into the next generation of potential homebuyers. Families that are unable to build generational wealth struggle to contribute to societal wealth.

Arthur Drooker’s 36 Views of the Golden Gate Bridge! ArtWalk is Tuesday, June 3rd from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the MV Chamber, 85 Throckmorton Ave.

After photographing the Golden Gate Bridge intensively for two years, I indeed came to see it anew. What I found most impressive, even more than the span’s status as an engineering and architectural icon, is its power as a symbol of possibility. When it was first proposed, naysayers declared there was no way to build what was then the tallest and longest suspension bridge in the world over such a treacherous strait. Undaunted, Joseph Strauss, the Golden Gate’s visionary chief engineer, replied, ā€œOur worldĀ  today Ā revolves completely around things which at one time couldn’t be done because they were supposedly beyond the limits of human endeavor. Don’t be afraid to dream.ā€ I dedicateĀ Thirty-Six Views of the Golden Gate BridgeĀ to this spirit of possibility.

Margherita Sagan’s husband, Loring, is the cofounder and partner in Build, a firm that does residential development in San Francisco. It will house Piccino No. 3. Like everything Rogat and Sagan do, the Mill Valley project has been a little nuts, as any property dealing with water elements will be. But with the building permits secured, they hope things are on track for 2026.
