Mt. Tamalpais United Methodist Church is well into its holiday season of events, and next up is the Longest Night Service on Wednesday, December 21 at 6:30pm. The Holiday season is often marked by expressions of joy, excitement, and happiness. However, this period of celebration can often overshadow the pain, hurt and loneliness that many experience during this time of year.
As an act of care for the community, Mt. Tam Church is hosting a service for the Longest Night of the year on December 21 in their sanctuary. During this gathering, we will make space for and give voice to the elements of our lives and world which are weighing heavy on our hearts. This service is open to people of all faith traditions and will feature music, candles, poetry, and readings from sacred texts.
All are welcome to join the service, which begins at 6:30pm. It will last approximately 45 minutes and the sanctuary will remain open for silent meditation for 30 minutes after the service concludes. For more info, contact Rev. Luke Ham at Luke@mtumc.org.
That event will be followed by Christmas Eve Services on Saturday, December 24 with “Wiggles and Giggles” at 4pm. An informal, fun service designed for children and their families, as well as carols, interactive storytelling and the lighting of the Christ Candle involve all participants. The service is more casual than most and yet still conveys the beauty and wonder of Christmas.
At 7pm, a traditional Candlelight Celebration featuring the Mt. Tam Family Choir for a service of traditional carols and music, the reading of the Christmas story and singing of all the carols that bring the spirit of Christmas to your heart.
Finally, the official Christmas Day Service on Sunday, December 25 at 10:30am. Cocoa, cookies & Christmas Carols: Come in your PJs for a casual worship service. You’ll enjoy hot cocoa, cookies and sing all our favorite Christmas carols. Mount Tamalpais United Methodist Church, 410 Sycamore Ave, Mill Valley.
