According to the state of California, the store should be paying you at least $20 an hour, but only for the hours you work in the fast food portion of the store. If you spend part of your shift checking out customers or stocking the shelves in the rest of the store, you’re only entitled to the regular minimum wage of $16 for those hours. That’s according to an 18-item FAQ the Department of Industrial Relations published in March as California businesses prepare for the fast food minimum wage to kick in on Monday. It’s not the only situation that is confusing employers and workers alike.”

The organizers of the parade have teamed up with the Sweetwater Music Hall to showcase some of the iconic photos from parades of yesteryear, a great opportunity for patrons to check out past parade photos and much more. The display will be showcased on Tuesday, April 2nd in the Sweetwater’s outdoor patio. In addition to photos, it will also include posters, pictures and videos.

As always, the weekend extends well beyond the massive parade, including the return of the Mill Valley Volunteer Firefighters’ Association’s Pancake Breakfast from 7-11am, the Mill Valley Historical Society’s annual ‘Walk Into History’ event, the 4-day KIDDO! Carnival and the after Parade party. The Kiddo! Memorial Day Celebration is from 12-5:15pm on Friends Field with free admission.

The exhibit includes William L. Patterson, who graduated in 1911 and became a pioneering civil rights leader, as highlighted by the Mill Valley Historical Society in 2021. The exhibit also focuses on the creation of Marin City as the then-best integrated shipyard on the West Coast, and the history of redlining and racial covenants in Marin, among others.

Snoyman also found a newspaper piece about the marriage of “Louise Anderson and Oren E. Lovett Jr., who were married in Reno on Thursday, October 19, by the Rev. Eickelberg. The bride has resided in Mill Valley for 18 months, being employed at Marinship. She was formerly in charge of Kay’s Gift Shop in Fairbanks, Alaska. She has a daughter who attends Tamalpais High School. The groom, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oren E. Lovett of 268 East Blithedale Ave., has lived in Mill Valley since 1916. He is a graduate of Tamalpais High School. He enlisted in the Navy and after a year’s service received an honorable discharge. He is now employed at Marinship.”
