In prior hearings, food and beverage service remained focused on the possibility of Food Trucks. The updated code provides specific regulations that would apply to all food and beverage service businesses, even those without a use permit. These regulations codify the “good neighbor policy” that is often required as a CUP condition of approval for restaurants. By codifying these regulations, the intention is to reduce the need for CUPs and also provide clear guidance to businesses and staff. City Staff recommended 5,000 square-foot threshold for larger spaces like the former Rite Aid space, but not setting it too high. The Planning Commission felt that the size threshold should be 3,000 in downtown downtown commercial districts. Mill Valley Chamber: “There remains interest in and discussion of food trucks, though none more than Zorba’s at Goodman’s. Mill Valley currently has two very large, very empty historic restaurants, and maybe there is a business that might be interested in giving a food truck a shot and potentially eyeing it for a future brick & mortar business. Maybe that’s backwards thinking…but we should be thoughtful and not restrictive and keep our options open.”

In the latter part of 2025, the Mill Valley City Council, led by then-incoming Mayor Max Perrey, made it clear that the intentions for the City of Mill Valley were bold. That has become increasingly clear in 2026, with Perrey and the rest of the City Council unveiling a Work Plan that spans nearly 60 projects it seeks to accomplish or launch over the next two years. The to-do list includes building a public works complex and multimillion-dollar renovations at the golf course clubhouse and library. It includes creating a recurring “Miller Nights” event series where streets would be closed for music, dining and kids’ activities. The list also includes extending local taxes and raising new revenues, developing affordable housing, updating traffic signals and transit options, making progress on sea-level rise and wildfire protection, further streamlining the permit process and expanding neighborhood and community-wide events.

This ceremony marks the celebration of Mill Valley’s 125th anniversary year with the placement of a time capsule capturing daily life in 2025 and documenting the three-day 125th Anniversary Celebration over Labor Day Weekend. The 2025 time capsule will be placed inside the 12+ ton red jasper boulder that sits in front of City Hall, and replaces the 1953 time capsule that was removed from the boulder earlier this year. The new time capsule is to be opened on September 1, 2100 – so mark your calendars, or your children’s or grandchildren’s calendars!

Longtime Mill Valley resident, former co-owner of WIGT Print and Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival board member Barry Toranto has been at the forefront of 94941 creativity for decades. But as with many creative dynamos, Toranto has a variety of waves to express his creative output. One of those outlets is thrilling, color-laden Windowscape photographs, as he calls them. Barry is also our 2025-26 Mill Valley Community Map Cover Artist with a windowscape of downtown Mill Valley. oranto will be showcasing his work on the walls of the Mill Valley Chamber’s space at 85 Throckmorton Ave. from November 25th to January 15th. Aside from the First Tuesday Artwalk, the Chamber’s office is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 12-4pm.

As coffee lovers can attest, there’s been lots of Sturm & Drang in recent months about the future of Peet’s Coffee at 88 Throckmorton in downtown Mill Valley. The Peet’s Coffee store in Mill Valley has been part of the company success that began in 1966. Peet’s opened its first Bay Area store in Berkeley in 1966 and the Mill Valley location was opened in 1987. Peet’s determined in recent months that the size of the 88 Throckmorton space no longer matched the customer experience of the other successful Peet’s shops elsewhere in Marin County. Rather than simply move on, the ever-creative folks, legendary Sweetwater Music Hall saw an opportunity to keep Peet’s in downtown Mill Valley.

Beth Davila Waldman is a cross-disciplinary artist using photography, painting, assemblage and installation. Her work explores the impact of socio-political trends on cultural landscapes, often through imagery laden with indicators of economic and social status, presented in a manner that emulates the sheer stress of imposed change. Waldman’s constructed vistas re-conceive the notion of sanctuary amidst the realities of colonization, and invite meditations on civil access. Waldman imbues her work with a unique materiality by printing or transferring photographs on a plethora of materials—from tarp to sails, canvas to paper.

Reeves’ early fascination with natural systems, their networks, and the creatures who inhabit them, initially drew her to study marine biology, where she could revel in the fantastical creatures and unknown realms. The rules did not seem to apply to the morphology of life under water. The visuals of strange and brightly colored creatures swaying and moving in the swells and currents embedded itself and is reflected in these works. These biological systems, so diverse and unique to their surroundings, had such exquisite specificity and yet seemed so fantastical; untethered and floating within the space they inhabit, seemingly weightless – interconnected, related, and yet abstract and nonsensical.

“10 years ago, I happened to find myself in The Image Flow in Mill Valley and saw a brochure about their first Cuba Photographic Workshop that was coming up and I immediately sign up! That’s when I experienced for the first time “The Allure of Cuba”. I’ve been to Cuba three times and Viet Nam once and Southern India once on photographic workshops, but my real education started when I joined the Marin Photo Club nine years ago. Numerous club photo classes and competitions, field trips and photo show opportunities helped me get to where I am now.”
