Marin IJ: Transportation Authority of Marin Approves Sea-Level Plan
Capping a two-year effort, the board governing the Transportation Authority of Marin voted unanimously to accept the 200-page document at its meeting on June 26. Approval enables the agencyās staff to begin working with officials in the countyās 11 municipalities to implement policy changes and start developing projects, including elevating roads and restoring marshlands. āThis is really intended to be more than just another study that sits on the shelf,ā Anne Richman, executive director of the Transportation Authority of Marin said at the meeting. āThereās a lot of technical data behind the actual report, and we really want it to be useful to the jurisdictions.ā

The Tamalpais Valley project also has attracted criticism because of its location in an area that has been classified as a flood zone by the Federal Emergency Management Agency; the scant number of parking spaces being supplied; and its height. Several planning commissioners expressed concerns about these and other issues during a hearing on Thursday. County planning staff the county is powerless to mandate any changes that arenāt based on strict, objective design standards and gross threats to public health. āUnderstand that we cannot require any parking for this project,ā Marin County Planning Manager Jeremy Tejirian said.
