Marin IJ Restaurant Review: Mill Valley’s Tamalpie Still Delivers Great Food, Cocktails

I’d describe the pizza served at Tamalpie in Mill Valley as one with a Neapolitan crust and California-style toppings. This style suits its clientele just fine. The crust is thinnish, softly chewy and just a little crisp on the bottom. Toppings are fresh and first-rate, like Hobbs’ meats and house-made tomato sauce. Tamalpie, which opened in 2011, is firmly grounded in Mill Valley at the foot of Mount Tamalpais with a list of pizzas named after hiking trails and old camps on the mountain, like Cascade, Railroad Grade and Bootjack.

Marin IJ Editorial Board: With DEI decision, Bridge District Focuses on Practical Necessity

Freda B

The Trump administration’s anti-DEI mandate is apparently committed to letting politics get in the way of government’s job of keeping public assets safe and in good repair. San Francisco, Marin and Sonoma counties send a lot of tax dollars to Washington. Getting some of it back to help make sure this vital bridge survives an earthquake is more important than a symbolic mandate from the White House. The board’s decision reflects its responsibility for maintaining a strong and safe bridge. In its prudent and practical decision, the board’s sound public policy is trumping politics, as it should.

Someone’s Written a Children’s Book About SF’s Famed Bob’s Donuts in Mill Valley and Elsewhere

SF donut shop institution Bob’s Donuts has been further immortalized as the subject of the new children’s book Bob’s Donuts for Breakfast, which tells the tale of an intrepid dog and squirrel who are trying to get themselves some donuts. It’s been a heck of a year or so for the 65-year-old family-owned SF favorite Bob’s Donuts. The 24-hour donut destination had to move to a new spot on Polk Street after some sort of landlord dispute, but their new location at 1720 Polk Street just opened in February. Meanwhile, the staff had been dealing with a tragic hit-and-run accident that severely injured one of their bakers. But now there’s a sweet topping on a year of tumult, as KGO has the interesting story that someone has published a children’s book about Bob’s Donuts.

Marin IJ: Martin Cruz Smith, ā€˜Gorky Park’ Author Who Lived in Mill Valley for a Time, Dies in San Rafael at the Age Of 82

Born Martin William Smith in Reading, Pennsylvania, he studied creative writing at the University of Pennsylvania and started out as a journalist, including a brief stint at the AP and at the Philadelphia Daily News. The two bills signed by the governor create sweeping exemptions for urban infill housing developments up to 20 acres.
