MarinArts and Lark Theater to Present Special Film Screenings and Panel Discussion Featuring Voices from San Quentin Rehabilitation Center and Cedars
Event brings together storytelling from incarcerated filmmakers and Marin artists with developmental disabilities for an evening of screenings, panel discussion, and community conversation.
LARKSPUR, Calif. — MarinArts and Lark Theater will present a special evening of screenings and panel discussion on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Lark Theater, 549 Magnolia Ave, Larkspur, CA 94939. The program will feature short films from the San Quentin Film Program (SQ Reelz) and Cedars, a Marin nonprofit serving adults with developmental disabilities, followed by a panel discussion and outdoor reception.
SQ Reelz is a professional video production team of incarcerated storytellers at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center. The program provides a platform for participants to study filmmaking, photography, video editing, sound, and audio engineering, and to produce work that humanizes incarcerated people and highlights rehabilitative and vocational programs at the San Quentin Learning Center.
Cedars Shorts will offer a glimpse into the daily lives and creative work of Cedars program participants, including animated films made with the guidance of art instructor Daniel Krakauer, along with short documentary pieces exploring residents’ personal stories and artistic processes.
Following the screenings, attendees can stay for a panel discussion featuring:
- Chance Andes, Warden, San Quentin Rehabilitation Center
- Daniel Krakauer, Cedars Art Facilitator and Head of the Animation/Film Program
- Mary O’Mara, Moderator, MarinArts
“This evening is about giving space to stories that don’t often get told, and to the people telling them,” said Mary O’Mara, moderator and Executive Director of MarinLink. “Whether the storytellers are behind prison walls or navigating life with a developmental disability, film gives them a way to be seen and heard on their own terms.”
