Mill Valley Middle School Modernization Phase: Interim Campus Construction August 14, 2026 

Work Completed August 8 – 14 

● Excavated trenches; installed sewer, storm drain, and domestic water utilities; and backfilled trenches with  clean material.  

● Continued grading the site to prepare the area for interim campus construction. 

● Placed lightweight fill concrete to cap the site and raise it above the flood plain.  

● Poured concrete for the trash enclosures. 

● Poured concrete paving and painting road striping for the new student drop-off/pick-up.  

Work Planned for August 15 – 21 

● Continue utility trenching and installation work. 

● Finish placing lightweight fill concrete to cap and raise the site.  

● Form and pour concrete for the retaining walls on the north and south side of Ryan’s Creek.  ● Install fencing and gates for the trash enclosure.  

● Place base rock and begin installing foundations for the mobile modular buildings.  

Anticipated Impacts 

● There will be noise and vibrations associated with this work.  

● Air quality will be monitored during all soil disturbing work. 

● 5-8 trucks will enter/exit the site three times per day; trucks will be cleaned and covered before exiting. ● Harrison Skate Park is CLOSED from July 6 – September 30th. 

● Access between Friends Field and Sycamore Avenue is closed for the duration of the project.  ● Additional staff parking is available at Mt. Tamalpais Unified Methodist Church. See map on the second page.  The majority of Sycamore Avenue street parking will remain available for staff and visitors.  

NEW STUDENT DROP-OFF & PICK-UP 

• See map on the second page for the new location.  

• Walk or bike to school, if possible.  

• Allow extra time. 

• Do not use the Community Center parking lot.  

• We will have staff and signage on-site to assist families the first few days. 

Air Monitoring 

● Air quality monitoring demonstrated detected levels of methane, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and dust  (PM10) are primarily below the action levels established in the Community Air Monitoring Plan. ● Minor to moderate exceedances of dust were observed during grading activities. Dust control measures were  applied during all grading work. The exceedances were immediately addressed by the construction team. Work  was temporarily paused to reduce dust levels and reapply dust control measures, as needed.  ● Other exceedances were attributed to off-site sources unrelated to construction.  

Work Hours 

● 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday – noisier work between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  ● 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 15.  

● Some work will occur outside of these hours, and advance notice will be provided.  

Site Security 

● Security cameras are in use and monitoring the site 24/7; the police department is notified of trespassers. ● Measures are in place to prevent flooding from king tides in coordination with the City and County.
