MarinIJ Sports Briefs: Mill Valley Majors Team Wins to Stay Alive at NorCals!
Paxton King and Calvin Boehle drove in two runs apiece as Mill Valley stayed alive in the NorCal majors tournament following an 8-6 victory against Los Gatos on Monday night.
Mill Valley remains in the consolation bracket and faces Chico Central in Chico on Tuesday. Mill Valley needs to win that game then another elimination game on Wednesday to reach Thursday’s championship game.
Mill Valley scored five runs in the top of the first but the momentum was short lived as Los Gatos came right back with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Los Gatos surged in front 6-5 in the bottom of the second inning but Tate Shackleton and Tyler Feduska came on in relief to limit Los Gatos in the final 4.2 innings.
Shackleton allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out five in 2.2 innings. Feduska pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit while striking out two.
Mill Valley scored three times in the fourth inning to take the lead for good, loading the bases with one out after Feduska was hit by a pitch before Laszlo Winn and Cooper Maddex hit back-to-back singles. King was hit by a pitch to force in the tying run then Wyatt Droege was hit by another pitch to plate the go-ahead run. Boehle followed with a single for the final margin.
