A Fresh Take on a Shakespeare Favorite

In Love’s Labour’s Lost, the King of Navarre convinces three friends to join him in a three-year pledge to avoid women and devote themselves to study and self-improvement. Their lofty ambitions are immediately challenged when the Princess of France and her companions arrive on official business.

What follows is a whirlwind of romance, disguises, misunderstandings, sharp wit, and comic mischief. This production explores how the king and his companions’ attempts at self-optimization resonate with today’s culture, while the princess and her entourage remain focused on living fully, speaking truthfully, and getting the job done.

This production also marks an exciting new chapter for Curtain Theatre under the leadership of Artistic Director Doyle Ott, who recently succeeded Michele Delattre, and Managing Director Lindsey Abbott. The creative team includes scenic designer Steve Coleman, whose imaginative sets once again make full use of the amphitheater’s natural beauty; music director Don Clark, leading Curtain’s signature live acoustic ensemble alongside Michele Delattre, Jo Lusk, and David Solnit; costume designer Robert Horek; dramaturg Peter Bradbury; and text coach J.J. Van Name.
