MarinIJ: Sports Briefs: Mill Valley claims LL Section Pennant
Mill Valley Little League used solid pitching and steady hitting to capture the Section 1 pennant with an 8-2 victory over Davis National on Tuesday evening at Mt. Diablo High.
Mill Valley starter Cooper Maddex went 4 innings, as he allowed two runs on three hits, struck out three batters and walked one. Lucas Parrett pitched 2 no-hit innings in relief to close out the win. Parrett got the last batter to ground out to Tyler Feduska at third base to end the game.
Maddex was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while Jack Devlin was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. Tate Shackleton was 2-for-3 with a double and drove in two runs.
The Mill Valley All-Stars got on the board with four runs in the top of the first inning, with Maddex, Paxton King, Wyatt Droege and Devlin all coming around the bases.
Devlin doubled to lead off the fourth and scored on a base hit by Shackleton, who later scored as Mill Valley took a 6-2 lead.
Jonas Jackson doubled to lead off the fifth and scored on a single from Parrett, who later scored on a base hit from Maddex for a dominating 8-2 Mill Valley lead.
Mill Valley got a double from Laszlo Winn and a hit from Cal Boehle. Feduska and Cody Chittenden anchored a solid Mill Valley infield, backed by sharp outfield.
Mill Valley was undefeated in the tournament, with wins earlier over Martinez, Napa and Petaluma National, and outscored opponents 29-6.
