Chamber members Mystic and The Local Trade came together to host a sold out spoon carving class last month. The packed room in Mystic’s new B-Side studio brought together members of the community to share the experience of carving spoons by hand. Using Japanese techniques and a range of tools, attendees all walked away with their new favorite kitchen utensil: One they made.

“I had never worked with wood or carving tools of any kind before, and I left this workshop with a beautiful hand-crafted spoon that I couldn’t have imagined being able to make on my own! Aaron is such a good teacher with a very calm demeanor that puts you instantly at ease,” said attendee Amanda Farrell. “My husband and I had such a fun date night (you get an experience AND a cool work of art by the end!) but I would also bring my girl friends for a girls’ night!”

Class host and owner of The Local Trade, Aaron Sanchez, said “This was a special one. Hosting our first class in Mill Valley, where we live, and with Mystic, a business we’ve long admired, was special by itself. Seeing the smiles on faces and the journey from a block of wood to a carved spoon made it 100 times better.

Mystic and The Local Trade already have their next class planned. Grab a friend, plan a date, or come solo and meet others in the community on Friday, September 4th at 6pm. Registration is open here.
