Mill Valley Middle School Modernization Phase: Interim Campus Construction September 18, 2026 

Work Completed September 14 – 18 

● Received and placed base rock to prepare the building pads and foundation areas for the temporary classrooms. ● Continued preparing modular building foundations.  

● Relocated the temporary dewatering system to support ongoing site work.  

● Continued installing retaining wall and curbs and gutters.  

● Excavated into the lightweight concrete fill and installed underground sewer piping.  

Early Morning Concrete Pours – September 21-23, 3 to 9 a.m.  

• From Monday, September 21 to Wednesday, September 23, crews will pour concrete foundations for the  modular classrooms in the early mornings. The work is planned between 3 and 9 a.m. to minimize  impacts to area traffic and students and families traveling to school.  

• Additional crews and equipment will be working on-site during these hours.  

• Seven pump trucks will loop between the campus and the concrete plant in San Rafael during this time. • Flaggers will be available to safely direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic. 

• Workers will begin parking in the Terra Marin parking lot as early as 2:30 a.m. and have been reminded to  be as quiet as possible.

Additional Work Planned for September 21 – 25 

● Continue preparing modular building foundations and begin installing pedestrian pavement.  ● Continue to install sewer system components underground. This will include excavating into the lightweight  concrete fill or soil and the appropriate dust control measures will be in place. 

Anticipated Impacts 

● There will be noise and vibrations associated with this work.  

● Air quality will be monitored during all soil disturbing work. 

● On non-concrete pour days, we will have a minimal number of trucks making equipment deliveries. Trucks will  be inspected and cleaned, if needed, before leaving the site. 

● Parking in the area is limited and the student drop-off and pick-up location has changed. More information and  a map are provided on the third page of this notice.  

● Access between Friends Field and Sycamore Avenue is closed for the duration of the project.  ● From September 7 to 25, a temporary construction fence will extend about five feet into Friends Field to allow  for the installation of a new curb along the fenceline. This will temporarily close a small portion of the field  adjacent next to the project site and the path leading to first base. See the photo on the second page.  ● Harrison Skatepark is CLOSED from July 6 – September 30th. 

Air Monitoring 

● Air quality monitoring demonstrated detected levels of methane, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and dust  (PM10) were primarily below the action levels established in the Community Air Monitoring Plan. ● Dust alerts were observed at the downwind and crosswind air monitoring stations on Monday, Tuesday,  Wednesday, and Thursday during backfill and saw cutting activities. These alerts were addressed immediately by  applying dust control measures.  

● VOC alerts were observed at the crosswind air monitoring stations on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and  Friday due to vehicle exhaust from construction equipment operating near the stations..  

Work Hours 

● 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday – noisier work between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Site Security 

● Security cameras are in use and monitoring the site 24/7; the police department is notified of trespassers. ● Measures are in place to prevent flooding from king tides in coordination with the City and County.
