The Mill Valley Film Festival has added the West Coast premiere of NAZA, the new documentary film directed by Israeli filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor and produced by The Guardian and JW Films, in association with Placeholder Films and Unseen Hand, to the Documentary lineup of MVFF49. Presented by the California Film Institute, the 49th Mill Valley Film Festival will take place from Thursday, October 1 through Sunday, October 11.

“The most unsettling question NAZA raises is what happens when a people shaped by the memory of dehumanization begin, in pursuit of an enemy, to dehumanize others in turn,” said Mark Fishkin, Founder and Director of the Mill Valley Film Festival. “It’s a parallel the filmmakers argue we cannot look away from.”

The film had its world premiere in Competition at the 2026 Venice Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize. Abraham and Szor are two of the four co-directors behind the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land. NAZA is executive produced by Jonathan Glazer, the Oscar-winning director of The Zone of Interest.

Shot at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, NAZA lays bare the systems used to select bombing targets in Gaza, as told by the more than twenty Israeli intelligence officers and soldiers who designed and operated them. The film builds on reporting published by the Guardian in partnership with +972 Magazine and Local Call.

NAZA will screen Tuesday, October 6, 7:30 PM and Thursday, October 8, 1:30 PM at the Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael.

MVFF49 runs October 1–11, 2026, at venues throughout Marin County and the Bay Area and feature Martin McDonaugh’s Wild Horse Nine as its Opening Night film, Peter Farrelly’s I Play Rocky as the Centerpiece and Jesse Eisenberg’s The Debut as the Closing Night film. See the full lineup here.
