The Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, which spans all of Mill Valley’s 94941, did its due diligence about Measure P on the November ballot. The measure proposes a special parcel tax of 5 cents per square foot — generating approximately $12.5 million annually for 15 years — and seeks to fund affordable childcare and high-quality early childhood education to improve compensation to retain and attract educators. As executive director of the Chamber, I am happy to share that we say yes.

The funds support expanding access to affordable, high-quality childcare to strengthen the workforce. We see childcare as economic infrastructure. Our local businesses cannot thrive without a reliable workforce.

We heard from our board, spanning a broad swath of businesses, business leaders and more.

“As a leader in senior living, I see firsthand how communities thrive when people have the support they need to care for their families,” said board member Kyle Ruth-Islas, CEO of The Redwoods senior community. “I have also seen the hardship faced by working parents with young children when access to quality childcare is not accessible.

“(Measure P) is an important initiative to help ensure that working parents can access quality childcare. Children must have the opportunity to succeed, and employers can retain the workforce they need. This is an investment that benefits generations of Marin residents.”
