Work Completed July 13 – 17

● Finished installing dewatering wells and started dewatering operations over the weekend. Dewatering lowers  water levels under the site so excavation work can be done safely. Water that is removed is pumped to an on site tank where it is treated and then released into the storm drain system.  

● Marked areas on-site where retaining walls will be constructed. Retaining walls are needed to separate the site  from surrounding areas and prevent any potential flooding. 

● Excavated trenches for electric utilities.  

Work Planned for Week of July 20 

● Begin excavation work to prepare the site for interim campus construction. Impacted soil will be hauled off to a  licensed disposal facility.  

● Excavate trenches for water and sewer lines; install water and electrical utilities; and backfill trenches with clean  fill material.  

● Begin forming the curb for the trash enclosure and setting the fence posts for the electrical utility and trash  enclosures.  

● Re-route the control wiring for the Friends Field irrigation system and relocate the box that houses it so it  remains accessible during the interim campus construction.  

Anticipated Impacts 

● There will be noise and vibrations associated with this work.  

● Air quality will be monitored during all soil disturbing work. 

● 5-8 trucks will enter/exit the site three times per day; trucks will be cleaned and covered before leaving the  property. 

● Mill Valley Skate Park is CLOSED from July 6 – August 31st. 

● Access between Friends Field and Sycamore Avenue is closed for the duration of the project.  

Air Monitoring 

● Air quality monitoring demonstrated detected levels of methane, volatile organic compounds, and dust (PM10)  are generally below the action levels established in the Community Air Monitoring Plan. 

● Minor exceedances of VOCs were attributed to upwind (off-site) sources unrelated to construction activities on site. 

● The general contractor was notified of dust exceedances at the downwind air monitoring station. Corrective  actions (reduced vehicle speeds, additional wetting of soil, etc.) were immediately implemented by the general  contractor to reduce dust levels. 

Work Hours 

● 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday with weekend work as needed.  

● Saturday work will occur from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. starting Saturday, July 25 through Saturday, August 15. ● Noisier work will occur between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  

● Some work will occur outside of these hours, and advance notice will be provided.  

Site Security 

● Security cameras captured several individuals on the construction site after hours. For everyone’s safety, the  site is closed to the public for the duration of construction. Please do not enter the site.  

● Security cameras are in use and monitoring the site 24/7 and the police department is notified of trespassers. ● Various measures are in place to mitigate flooding from king tides at the site, and all work is coordinated with  the City and County.
