Despite an unrelenting pandemic, the Depot Plaza’s been abuzz with activity over the past 16-plus months, from buskers of all stripes and SF Opera performers on hiatus to socially distanced outdoor dining on picnic tables from the City of Mill Valley and all manner of impromptu gatherings related to diversity and equity.
But come Sept. 11-12 (11am-6:30pm), the Depot Plaza’s going to be rockin’ to a degree we haven’t seen in a long time. The Mill Valley Arts Commission is reviving its Concerts in the Plaza series with two full days of live music featuring an array of acclaimed local bands, as well as a few exciting special guests.
The first day kicks off with rock band Cubed playing originals and covers, followed by multi-talented local sensation Matt Jaffe and his band, with Dirty Cello, a SF-based cello blues and bluegrass band and West Coast blues singer GG Amos rounding out the bill. One day later, gypsy jazz band Bandjango gets the fun started, followed by local heavyweights The Well Known Strangers, then Mark Karan, best known for his long-term work with former members of the Grateful Dead. Local favorites Michael White & Friends finish it off with an all-star jam.
All concerts are on the Depot Plaza at 87 Throckmorton Ave., and attendees are encouraged to walk and ride bicycles to the venue. The Depot Plaza is within walking distance from a number of fantastic eateries and myriad retail and specialty shops to browse while you’re wandering around between the live music performances.
