Two Neat, brilliant Bob Bijou’s witty, charming, always LOL card, gifts, toys and much more shop is shutting down the business at the end of of August. Like many businesses who’ve lasted through many eras, it is largely a sad day. But Bob and his witty co-horts are focused on landing this plane with all the joy and fart jokes Two Neat calls for. From bacon-scented air freshener to inarguably the best collection of greeting cards in Marin, Bijou’s Two Neat shop at 111 Throckmorton Ave. has been an institution in Mill Valley for 39 years – with a little something for everyone.

The City purchased the baskets from the amazing Green Jeans and and the equally amazing Susie Turner of Green Door Design, (along with a college student, Mia) are handling the watering. “Huge thank you goes out to Mill Valley Chamber for its donation of $3k to this project which covers the costs of the baskets, hardware and water sprayer,” Joachim says. “We sincerely appreciate your support and faith that the Beautification Brigade could get it done!”

“10 years ago, I happened to find myself in The Image Flow in Mill Valley and saw a brochure about their first Cuba Photographic Workshop that was coming up and I immediately sign up! That’s when I experienced for the first time “The Allure of Cuba”. I’ve been to Cuba three times and Viet Nam once and Southern India once on photographic workshops, but my real education started when I joined the Marin Photo Club nine years ago. Numerous club photo classes and competitions, field trips and photo show opportunities helped me get to where I am now.”

Seven accomplished Mill Valley residents will be honored at an elegant program and buffet supper from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, October 27 at the Mill Valley Community Center. The six will receive bronze statuettes designed by the late sculptor John Libberton. Mill Valley is the only city in Marin County that officially recognizes the talents and achievements of people in the arts.

I’d describe the pizza served at Tamalpie in Mill Valley as one with a Neapolitan crust and California-style toppings. This style suits its clientele just fine. The crust is thinnish, softly chewy and just a little crisp on the bottom. Toppings are fresh and first-rate, like Hobbs’ meats and house-made tomato sauce. Tamalpie, which opened in 2011, is firmly grounded in Mill Valley at the foot of Mount Tamalpais with a list of pizzas named after hiking trails and old camps on the mountain, like Cascade, Railroad Grade and Bootjack.
