Nearly 40 years since its inception, Mill Valley’s Richardson Pribuss Architects continues to churn out award-winning work within the 94941 and beyond.
Perhaps the most prominent example in town is the gorgeous, ever-adaptable new retractable awning roof with bifold glass walls and slideable glass partitions on the Sweetwater Music Hall‘s outdoor patio, keeping patrons warm while eating or hanging out between sets. But it’s far from the only project by the 14-person team (above, at bottom) spearheaded by partners Heidi Richardson and Andrew Pribuss that is drawing industry acclaim.
The firm was recently profiled in Residential Design magazine, which placed the firm “in the enviable position of being in the right place at the right time.”
“The firm has always grown or shrunk a bit with the economy,” Richardson told the magazine. “Now we keep growing, concentrating in Marin and Mill Valley, because that’s where everyone wants to live.”
“Heidi generated this environment where she delegates and empowers employees to be their own project architect, run their own thing,” Pribuss says. “That’s why I stayed; I like being accountable to myself, getting it done.”

The firm was also spotlighted in Interior Design magazine, turning a “diminutive cottage” built almost a century ago in Mill Valley into a home that “preserves the locale’s giant redwoods” while optimizing views of them,” with the intent “to remain true to the cabin vernacular while “boiling down the essence of domesticity to just 1,600 square feet.”
